About
MASKWACIS VICTIM SERVICES UNIT
Maskwacis Victim Services Unit was established in August, 2007, by Maskwachees Justice Society. It was initially set up in the Louis Bull Cree Nation and began offering services to victims of crime to all of Maskwacis community, until October, 2008, when an office was no longer available. For a short period, Maskwacis Victim Services was re-located in a trailer in Montana Cree Nation which eventually burned down. In 2009, Maskwacis Victim Services was again relocated to its now current location which is the Maskwacis RCMP Detachment in Samson Cree Nation.
Maskwacis Victim Services Unit became a society after Ermineskin, Samson, Louis Bull, and Montana Nations collaborated to establish and deliver a comprehensive victim services unit for the Maskwacis Community that would meet the cultural and spiritual needs of their people. Maskwacis is a diverse community and the tremendous need to serve the people of Maskwacis is crucial as Aboriginal victims of crime may have family and community concerns that are different from those of non-Aboriginal victims of crime.
Maskwacis Victim Services Society was incorporated on July 20, 2010.
